Flour prices on hike in Tajikistan - media reports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. Prices for imported flour and flour of domestic production have increased in Tajikistan, Trend reports citing Tajik media.

As of May 20, a 50-kilogram bag of flour of the first grade of Kazakh production has risen in price by 20 somoni ($1.6). Thus, on May 14 such a volume cost 380 somoni ($30.3), now it stands at 400 somoni ($31.9).

Prices for domestically produced flour also increased as the the cost of a bag of flour ranges from 375 to 380 somoni ($29.9 to $30.3).

The reasons for the increase in the price of flour are not reported. Previously, fluctuations in foreign exchange and changes in exports and imports were referred to as the reason for rising prices.

Tajikistani Statistics Committee said earlier that flour imports decreased by 4.1 percent over 1Q2022 compared to 1Q2021, and wheat imports decreased by 7.6 percent.
