Modernization of two oil refineries in Kazakhstan nearing completion

Modernization of the two oil refineries will be completed by the end of the year, said the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev, during a meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev., the press service of the Kazakh president said in a message.

“We plan to launch the Pavlodar plant in November. The modernization of the Atyrau refinery is expected to be completed by December 16,” said Bozumbayev.

He added that the catalyti cracking unit will be used for the first time in the Kazakh oil refineries, which will increase the volume of oil products and improve their quality. The catalytic cracker will be installed in all the three oil refineries (Pavlodar, Atyrau and Shymkent) which are currently being modernized.

Previously, the improper schedule of modernization process of the refineries lead to fuel shortage in the internal market of Kazakhstan.

The Energy Minister assured Nursultan Nazarbayev that next year the Kazakh market will be provided with high-quality fuel, including aviation fuel.
