The checks exchanged in Iran increased by 10.5 percent in terms of number and 4.7 percent in terms of value in the 6th month of the current Iranian year (August 22-September 21, 2020) compared to the 5th month (July 22-August 21, 2020), Trend reports citing the CBI.

According to the statistics, in total, about 9.4 million checks worth 2.03 quadrillion rials (about $48.3 billion) were exchanged in the sixth month.

"The checks exchanged in the 6th month were mainly registered in three provinces: Tehran (31.5 percent in terms of number, 50.4 percent in terms of value), Isfahan (10.7 percent in terms of number, 6.4 percent in terms of value) and Razavi Khorasan (7.4 percent in terms of number, 6 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 8.5 million checks worth 1.82 quadrillion rials (about $43.5 billion) were received in Iran in the sixth month. This is an increase of 4.4 percent in terms of value and 10.7 percent in terms of number compared to the fifth month.

The CBI noted that about 864,000 checks worth 205 trillion rials (about $4.88 billion) were returned in the sixth month. The returned checks increased by 7.9 percent in terms of value and 8.8 percent in terms of number compared to the 5th month.

"The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 834,000 checks worth 197 trillion rials (about $4.69 billion) were returned in Iran. The checks 96.6 percent in terms of number and 96 percent in terms of value were returned due to lack of available funds or deficit," the report added.
