BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 27. An important session of the International Advisory Committee for COP29, consisting of experts, prominent figures, and former state officials, took place in New York under Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29, Trend reports.

The meeting aimed to update committee members on the progress made by the COP29 presidency since last month's gathering.

In his opening remarks, COP29 President-designate Mukhtar Babayev highlighted significant steps taken by the COP29 team to enhance ambitions and stimulate activities. The COP29 team took part in 75 events and bilateral meetings in New York as part of the UN General Assembly and Climate Week.

Babayev informed attendees about the week's activities, initiatives promoted by COP29, and discussions surrounding these initiatives. He emphasized that a Pre-COP meeting will occur in Baku next month, allowing parties to exchange views and reach a political agreement. He added that the COP29 team will continue to receive support from the International Advisory Committee to bridge differing opinions on priority issues.

Following this, COP29 Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev, UN Climate High-Level Champion Nigar Arpadarai, and the CEO of the Azerbaijan Operational Company for COP29, Narmin Jarchalova, provided updates on preparations for the Baku event and addressed committee members' questions.

Committee members, including notable leaders such as Ismail Serageldin, Jan Baderschneider, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, and Patricia Espinosa, commended the efforts made in preparing for COP29.
