BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. Cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Azerbaijan amounted to 67.3 million tons from January through April 2022, which is 7.7 percent more than in the same period in 2021, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
According to the committee, 56.4 percent of all cargo was transported by road, 32.2 percent by pipeline, 8 percent by rail, 3.1 percent by sea, and 0.3 percent by air.
Cargo transportation in the private sector increased by 8.5 percent during the specified period compared to January through April 2021.
The share of this sector in the total volume of cargo transportation was 77.5 percent.
In the reporting period, passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 485.5 million people, which is 36.5 percent more than in the same period in 2021. Most of the passengers (86.5 percent) were transported by road, 13.1 percent - by metro, and 0.4 percent - by other modes of transport.
Cargo transportation by rail amounted to 5.4 million tons (an increase of 10.5 percent) in the reporting period of 2022, and passenger transportation - 1.3 million people (an increase of 94.7 percent).
More than 2.06 million tons of cargo were transported by sea in the reporting period, which is 3.7 percent more than from January through April 2021. The share of oil in the total volume of cargo transportation was 42.1 percent.
The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan exceeded 3.5 million tons from January through April 2022, 94.3 percent or about 3.3 million tons were transit cargo.
The volume of remaining cargo in Azerbaijani ports amounted to 71,800 tons as of May 1, 2022.
About 38 million tons of cargo were transported by road in the reporting period, which is 9.8 percent more than from January through April 2021, and passenger transportation by this mode of transport amounted to almost 420.2 million people (an increase of 18.4 percent over the year).
Baku metropolitan transported 63.5 million passengers during the reporting period.
Over 463,700 passengers were transported by air from January through April 2022, which is 2.6 times more than in the same period of 2021.
Cargo transportation by air for the year increased by 28.7 percent - up to 179,900 tons.
