Workforce from 105 world countries employed in Kazakhstan - Ministry of Labour

(Kazakhstan today) - Presently foreign citizens from 105 world countries are carrying out labour activities on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Serik Abdenov, director of the Department of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, has stated this at workshop on labour migration, Kazakhstan Today correspondent reports.

According to Mr. Abdenov, the dynamics of foreign workforce attraction shows an annual growth of the foreign workforce in RK. A tendency to a growth of the labour migration in Kazakhstan is apparent during the last four years. If in 2001 there were 10,720 attracted foreign specialists, in 2005 - 24,760, the quota for 2006 will allow to attract 50,000 foreign specialists, reports Trend.

Last year the majority of foreign specialists came from Turkey - 8,895 persons (36% against the total number of specialists in the republic), China - 3,238 persons (13%), Kyrgyzstan - 1,994 persons (8.1 %), UK - 1,287 persons (5.2%), Hungary - 899 persons (3.6%), Russia - 896 persons (3.6%); Italy - 888 persons (3.6%); India - 871 persons (3.5 %).

In the regional aspect the biggest workforce import is in Atyrau region - 32.6 %, Astana - 15.4%, Almaty region - 14.7%, and Almaty - 8.4 %,.

In the 1H 2006 the majority of foreign specialists came from Turkey - 31.3% of the total number (5,830), China - 13.8% (2,571), UK - 3.7% (694).

The main spheres where the foreign workforce is applied is construction (58.4%), mining (15%), agriculture (7.8%).

Mr. Ibrayev observed that Kazakhstan attached big importance to the relationship with Hungary and informed the Hungarian President on international initiatives of Kazakhstan and the strategy of entering the world's 50 top competitive states.

Mr. Solyom said characterising Kazakhstan as a "strategic partner in Central Asia" that it reached grand successes in the political and socioeconomic modernisation. The Hungarian President noted the dynamic development of our country and its growing role in the modern world and a worthy contribution into the international security.
