BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29. Kyrgyzstan is facing difficulties in the sustainable development of the energy sector, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov said on June 29, Trend reports citing Kyrgyz media.
According to him, today's electricity shortages in Kyrgyzstan make up about 6 billion kWh, of which 3 billion kWh is the current deficit, and 3 kWh is needed for the implementation of prospective projects.
"In this regard, increasing the capacity of electricity production is an important task, which must be solved as soon as possible," said the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Japarov also stressed that along with the launch of the construction of strategic facilities of the Kambarata 1-2 and Upper-Naryn HPP, priority should also be given to renewable energy sources.
Earlier, an agreement was signed for the construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 1000 megawatts in the Issyk-Kul region with representatives of the Chinese consortium of energy companies.
Moreover, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are expected to join in the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 in the Jalal-Abad region in the near future.
