Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham announced that Iran plans to file a lawsuit against the US government for blocking the Islamic Republicˈs choice of its mission at the UN, Hamid Aboutalebi, IRNA reported.
ˈThe official mechanisms for following up the complaint have been activated and we are going to follow up the case,ˈ Afkham said on Sunday.
She underlined that the US attempt in not issuing visa for Aboutalebi is violating the international law and it is against an agreement between the UN and the US government.
As the term of office of Iranˈs ambassador to the UN came to an end, Hamid Aboutalebi was appointed as Iranˈs new ambassador to the UN.
Subsequent to introduction of Aboutalebi as Iranˈs envoy, the US Senate on April 7 and the US Congress on April 10 passed a law which barred the entry of Aboutalebi to New York.
In the meantime, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who represented Iran for 8 years at the UN, called Aboutalebi as one of the most experienced and most rational Iranian diplomat who has ever travelled to New York as Islamic Republic of Iranˈs diplomat and attended the UN sessions.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi told IRNA on Saturday that the foreign ministry is pursuing the issue through legal mechanisms at the UN.
