SOCAR’s Azneft starts implementing new project
Azneft Production Union of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR is launching the Mayak project aimed at increasing productivity in the oil and gas sector, a source in the Azneft Production Union said in a message. It is noted that SOCAR Vice President for Field Development Yashar Latifov, SOCAR Vice President for Geology and Geophysics Bahram Huseynov, Director General of Azneft Production Union Dashgin Isgandarov, heads of departments took part in the production union’s meeting dedicated to the implementation of the Mayak project.
“Thanks to the new approach in the Mayak project, we will achieve productivity growth,” Isgandarov said. “The project is implemented at the expense of Azneft’s own funds, and the leadership of SOCAR supports it.”
The director general noted that the main goal of the Mayak project is, first of all, to increase production in 2018 and 2019, and then it is planned to start using the same project at other fields. Yashar Latifov noted that the Strategic Road Map for the development of the oil and gas industry was prepared to determine the long-term goals and directions of Azerbaijan’s development. “When implementing activities of the Road Map, SOCAR will apply new approaches, and from this point of view, the project is of great importance,” Latifov said.
Hajibaba Agayev, adviser to Azneft director general on new equipment and innovations, said that a team of young specialists is being formed to implement the project.
This team will once a week conduct assessment meetings on the implementation of the project and inform the management of the results of the meetings, he noted. The team included experts from the Azneft Production Union and 28 May oil and gas producing company, he added.
SOCAR Methanol fulfills production plan for 2017
SOCAR Methanol LLC, the methanol plant of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, has completely fulfilled its production plan for 2017, Elnur Mustafayev, head of SOCAR Methanol LLC, said. He made the remarks in Baku at an event titled “Industry Development: Support for Processing Spheres” organized by Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry and SOCAR Methanol LLC.
The company’s production plan for 2017 was 250,000 tons of methanol. “As much as 95 percent of the manufactured products was exported,” Mustafayev said. “There is great demand for methanol in the world - about 40 million tons [a year]. SOCAR Methanol LLC meets this demand by 0.7 percent. Five percent is sold on the Azerbaijani market to several companies. We hope that after today’s event, the interest for methanol in the country will grow.”
He added that increasing production capacity and reducing the cost of goods are the strategic objectives of the methanol plant. Production at Azerbaijan’s methanol plant, the only plant of this kind in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, started in January 2014.
