The Israeli prime minister shrugged off insulting statements of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad saying that Israel is 'always capable of defending itself', RIA Novosti reported.

Ahmadinejad, who is in Lebanon on a two-day visit, said on Thursday that Iran would always support Arabs in their confrontation with Israel. He urged to "bring defeat to the Zionists."

"Today we have heard abuse and obscenity aimed at Israel from Lebanon... We continue building our state. The State of Israel is always capable of defending itself," Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Ahmedinejad is known for anti-Israeli rhetoric, which adds to Western concerns over Iran's nuclear program. Most notoriously he said Israel must be wiped off the map and called on Europe or North America to host a Jewish state.
