Iran sent a letter of protest to the UN and its Security Council over provocative comments recently made by the US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton about Iran, reported Irna.
The letter, dated April 30, was sent to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the president of the Security Council by Iran's Deputy Ambassador to the UN Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi and is expected to be be registered as a formal document.
Condemning Clinton's statements as 'provocative, unwarranted and irresponsible,' the letter said that her remarks were blatant violation of the UN Charter and contradictory to all international legal principles on rights of other nations.
The letter also stressed that those comments were against efforts underway to safeguard international peace and stability.
In an interview with the US' ABC network on April 22, Clinton said that if she was the president of the United States, she would 'totally obliterate' Iran if the country launched any attack to Israel.
Stressing Tehran's opposition to all weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons, Danesh Yazdi added in the letter, "I wish to reiterate my government's position that the Islamic Republic of Iran has no intention to attack any other nations."
"Nonetheless .... Iran would not hesitate to act in self-defense to respond to any attack against the Iranian nation and to take appropriate defensive measures to protect itself," the diplomat stressed.
