The United Nations Security Council vote that ended Thursday NATO's mandate to intervene militarily in Libya "is good news," the military alliance said, DPA reported.
"Today's decision in the UN Security Council reflects the fact that we have completed our mission in full compliance with the UN mandate and paves the way for winding down the operation by October 31," NATO deputy spokeswoman Carmen Romero told dpa.
Last week, NATO ambassadors had said that they planned to end the alliance's near seven-month military engagement by that date.
"We stick to that decision," Romero said, speaking on the eve of another ambassadors' meeting expected to confirm the move. Diplomats were also set to consider Libyan leadership requests for continued NATO assistance to help secure borders and combat illegal migration.
