Kazakh and Turkish national air carriers Air Astana and Turkish Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement on routes between Kazakhstan and Turkey, Turkish company reported.

"The codeshare agreement allows passengers to benefit from a higher number of combined frequencies for better connectivity and increased travel flexibility between the two countries," the company said.

Moreover, the codesharing on flights on the routes Almaty - Istanbul and Astana - Istanbul additionally include special prorate agreements on sectors beyond respective hubs in Almaty, Astana and Istanbul offering an expanded network to passengers.

The agreement was signed at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Cape Town on Tuesday.

"We ...aim to improve our partnership (with Air Astana) to maximize the travel opportunities offered to passengers through the extensive networks of both airlines. We believe the partnership with Air Astana will bring enormous benefit to both airlines, not only from a commercial perspective in rapidly growing Kazakhstan, but also in technical and training areas," President and CEO of Turkish Airlines said.

Air Astana and Turkish Airlines signed the Letter of Intent to expand the range of cooperation between the two carriers in March 2013.

Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey. It operates scheduled services to over 200 international and domestic airports.

Air Astana is the flag carrier and the national airline of Kazakhstan. It is a joint venture owned by the Government of Kazakhstan (51 percent) and British BAE Systems (49 percent). The company operates a network of almost 60 international and domestic routes from hubs in Almaty, Astana and Atyrau.
