NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has called on the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to remain neutral amid the internal crisis. He wrote this on his Twitter page on Friday in Brussels, Ukrinform reported.
"Encouraged by repeal of Ukraine anti-protest legislation, but very concerned by attempts to involve the military in the crisis. Ukraine's military is highly-respected and must remain neutral. I continue to follow developments with concern," Rasmussen wrote.
As Ukrinform reported, servicemen and workers of the Ministry of Defence have agreed the text of the letter to the President - Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, calling him to stabilize the situation in the state. "Expressing their civic stance, servicemen and workers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who are serving and working in the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, have called the Supreme Commander-in-Chief within the existing legislation to take urgent measures to stabilize the situation in the country and reach consensus in society," the letter reads.
