Turkish President Abdulla Gul will launch a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan today, the Turkmen government reported.
"The upcoming summit to be held in the seaside town of Turkmenbashi is designed to write a new bright page in the chronicle of cooperation between the two friendly countries," the Turkmen government said.
The sides will discuss issues of mutual interest and priorities of long-term partnership.
The information stresses that "the results of this meeting will contribute to strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and Turkey and will give a new impetus to the further development of interstate cooperation in all directions."
The two states interact in line with more than 100 agreements signed on the interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels. Turkey and Turkmenistan have also created regular air transport, and major joint projects are being implemented.
Turkey ranks third in Turkmenistan's foreign trade turnover. Since early 2010, total trade turnover increased by 62.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
Turkmenistan sells textile, fuel and energy, chemical and agricultural products. Turkey exports metal and glassware, household goods, equipment, construction materials, electrotechnology, chemical and light industry products, food, vehicles and medicines.
Companies such as Polimex, Engin Group Consortium SA, Ickale Insaat Limited Sirketi, Cotham Enterprises and others are represented on the local market.
An intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation has operated from 2008. An agreement was reached on strengthening mutually beneficial ties, including in the energy, agriculture, transit and transport, science, technology and investment sectors during the most recent meeting in July in Ankara.
