Azerbaijan urged the European Parliament to demand from Armenia to carry out capital repairs on the collapsing dam, which is situated in the occupied territories of Nagorno-Karabakh, the headquarters of the president of the Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan (ACSDA), MP from Shamakhi district and the Chairman of Azerbaijani Delegation to the Euronest PA Elkhan Suleymanov, reported on Tuesday.
The appeal was supported by residents living near the reservoir.
The information says that the residents hope that interference of Europe will force Armenia to determine the level of risk, created of the 125-meter high dam, and carry out its thorough technical inspection.
The residents also pay attention to the fact that for 20 years Armenia has prevented the use of the dam, which was built for irrigation purposes.
Sarsang reservoir's dam was built over the lake with a length of 12 kilometers. According to hydrologists' calculations in case of an emergency 30 villages will be flooded.
