Azerbaijan commences execution of pardon decree

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. The execution of the decree “On pardoning a number of convicted persons” signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 25 has started, Trend reports.

According to the order, 154 people were pardoned.

A total of 63 people were freed from the unexecuted part of the imprisonment, another 52 convicts were halved the term of the sentence.

One person sentenced to imprisonment with a suspended sentence was also released.

Another 28 persons were released from the unexecuted part of the imprisonment, three convicted persons were halved the term of the unexecuted part of the imprisonment.

Two persons sentenced to correctional work and four persons sentenced to fines were also released from the unexecuted part of punishment. In addition, one person who was sentenced to imprisonment and served his sentence had his criminal record expunged.

To note, the pardon order freed eight foreigners from the uncompleted part of their prison sentences, including five citizens of Afghanistan, two citizens of Türkiye, and one citizen of Russia.
