DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, June 25. Tajikistan is currently implementing 18 investment projects in the energy sector worth $1.5 billion, announced Tajik Energy and Water Resources Minister Daler Juma at a regional conference in Dushanbe, Trend reports.

He noted that since 2001, 36 investment projects have been completed in the energy sector, worth $2.7 billion. These funds were used for the construction of new energy facilities and the reconstruction of other power infrastructure projects.

"To achieve key sectoral goals by 2030, several priority projects of local and regional significance are planned, including major hydroelectric projects and extensive use of renewable energy sources (solar and wind) with a capacity of at least 1500 MW," Juma added.

The Minister emphasized that approximately 98 percent of the country's electricity is generated by hydroelectric power stations annually.

According to Juma, Tajikistan's National Development Strategy until 2030 aims to increase energy capacity to 10 GW, boost electricity exports to 10 billion kWh, reduce energy losses to 10 percent, and enhance the share of energy from other renewable sources.

He noted that cooperation with development partners on the construction of solar power plants is ongoing.
