ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 25. The government of Kazakhstan has allocated more than 3.1 billion tenge (about $6.65 million) from its reserves for the reconstruction of the Nura Group water pipeline, Trend reports.
The corresponding resolution was signed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov.
Today, the Nura Group water supply system, stretching a whopping 337 kilometers, is the sole lifeline for 24 settlements spread across four districts.
At the same time, the service life of the backbone network, introduced in 1967, has already been exceeded twice. The deterioration of the water supply system is up to 90 percent. A particularly critical situation was noted in the area running through the territory of the Korgalzhyn and Egindikol districts. There, immediate replacement and reconstruction of the main structures are required.
To note, as part of a long-term water supply solution, Kazakhstan is building 20 reservoirs that can hold 2.5 billion cubic meters of water. The first stage will develop reservoirs in Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Zhetysu, Kyzylorda, and Turkistan regions.
In addition to this, Kazakhstan plans to give its reservoirs a facelift by breathing new life into 15 of them, with a whopping total volume of 1.9 billion cubic meters.
