Georgia introduces benefits for farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Every farmer in Georgia will receive 150 liters of diesel fuel per hectare, which will cost 1 lari (31 cents) cheaper compared to the market price, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said during the presentation of the agricultural anti-crisis plan, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

The prime minister spoke about the programs supporting the agricultural sector in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The government has developed a specific plan for the programs that already exist in the Ministry of Agriculture to help farmers and increase funding for these programs," said the prime minister.

According to him, each farmer who has registered land will receive a subsidy of 200 lari ($62.60) per hectare from the state.

Approximately, this means that medium-sized farms and large farms, which, for example, own 10 hectares of land and cultivate it, will receive assistance from the state in the amount of 2,000 lari [$625.98], said Gakharia.

“In addition, every farmer will receive 150 liters of diesel fuel per hectare, which will cost 1 lari (31 cents) cheaper compared to the market price. In general, the fuel price is critically, systemically significant for agricultural activities, and we are working to address this problem not only during this crisis but also in the coming years. I can guarantee that the price of diesel will be significantly cheaper than the price of diesel on the market,” he added.
