Iran’s GTC continues guaranteed wheat purchasing in Mazandaran Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 9. Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) has purchased 83,000 tons of wheat from farmers under a guarantee in Mazandaran Province (northern Iran), since the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season (started March 24, 2022) in the country, Director General of the GTC’s branch in the province, Abbasali Vafayinejad said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

Vafayinejad noted that the value of wheat purchased from farmers in the province under a guarantee was over 9.63 trillion rials (about $229 million).

“Of this, 9 trillion rials (about $214 million) has been paid to farmers,” he added.

Meanwhile, last season, a total of 68,800 tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Mazandaran Province under a guarantee, the director general said.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat is expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
