Iran's gas consumption rises by 14 bcm in 10 months

Iran's total gas consumption stood at over 138 billion cubic meters in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2014 - January 20, 2015).

Naser Ebrahimi, Director of Gas Distribution Department of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), said the figure is 14 billion cubic meters more than the previous year, Iran's SHANA News Agency reported Jan. 23.

"Iranian households consumed 43.614 billion cubic meters of gas in the mentioned period, which is 11 billion cubic meters more than same time span previous year," he added.

"The households' average gas consumption was around 215 million cubic meters per day," Ebrahimi said.

"The NIGC also delivered 27 billion cubic meters of gas to industrial units, which is 1.7 billion more than previous year," he noted.

"Some 143 million cubic meters per day was also delivered to the country's power plants," the official explained.

"The figure stood at 106 million cubic meters per day in the same period previous year," he noted.

Houshang Taheri, an official with the National Iranian Gas Company, predicted on Nov. 2 that Iranian households' gas consumption would reach 350 million cubic meters per day during the winter.
