President of Turkmenistan to participate in SCO summit

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 13

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as an honored guest, will take part in the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which will be held on September 17, 2021 in Dushanbe, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Tajik Foreign Ministry.

According to the information, the SCO meeting will be attended by the leaders of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Belarus, Iran, China, Mongolia, as well as the prime ministers of Pakistan and India.

In addition, SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Jumakhon Giyosov will take part in the meeting. The UN Secretary General and heads of regional organizations - CIS, CSTO, CICA, ECO and EAEU will also take part in the summit.

Also, on September 17, 2021, the first meeting of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Collective Security Treaty Organization will take place in Dushanbe. During the meeting, the heads of the SCO and CSTO states will discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an international organization founded by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Now the organization also includes India and Pakistan. In 2021, Tajikistan will chair the SCO.

Following the results of the current summit, a decision is expected to launch the procedure for admitting Iran as a full member state of the SCO.
