From January through November 2019, the new Istanbul airport served 47,297,757 passengers, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
According to the ministry, during the reported period, 11,517,499 passengers were served by domestic flights, while 35,780,258 passengers were served by international flights.
In the reported period, 295,163 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul airport, 74,110 of which were domestic, while 221,053 were international.
From January through November 2019, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 713,290 tons, of which 92,579 tons were domestic and 620,711 tons were international.
The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.
The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
