SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 26. Uzbekistan has handed over its Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) chairmanship to China, Trend reports.
As such, Beijing will be hosting 10th AIIB annual meeting in 2025.
Addressing the participants of the ceremony, AIIB President Jin Liqun has expressed his gratitude to Uzbekistan for the country’s hospitality.
"As governors, directors, management, and staff, we are deeply moved by the spirit of openness, generosity, and friendship demonstrated by your government and people during our time as guests in your beautiful country. The success of this event would not have been possible without your exceptional leadership," he said.
Uzbekistan's Investment Minister Laziz Kudratov highlighted the fruitful collaboration the country and the bank have experienced during this annual meeting.
"This is yet another testament to the growing strength of our partnership. The discussions over the past few days have reaffirmed our shared commitment to developing resilient and sustainable infrastructure, capable of addressing today’s challenges and paving the way for a brighter future. As we conclude this chapter, it is with great pleasure that I announce the handover of the next AIIB Annual Meeting to China. We are confident it will be a must-attend event, marking the 10th anniversary in Beijing. With its rich cultural heritage, global leadership in finance and trade, and welcoming spirit, Beijing will undoubtedly serve as an excellent host for this milestone occasion," the minister said.
China's Finance Minister and incoming AIIB annual meeting host Lan Fo'an added that 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of AIIB.
"We look forward to summarizing our achievements and experiences over the past decade with all parties and crafting a blueprint for the next 10 years. The year 2025 also concludes China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. We will seize this opportunity to share the experience of Chinese modernization and explore opportunities for global common development," he noted.
