CIS export projects in international markets were discussed and the prospects in order to ensure security of supply were assessed during the international conference, opened today in Ashgabat, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan said on Thursday.
Appeal of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and welcoming address of Chairman of the Board of CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev were heard during the opening of the oil and gas conference, the information said.
The priority issues referring to the role of the CIS countries in the international oil and gas industry, ensuring energy security, diversification of energy resources, transit of energy resources, compliance with environmental requirements and standards for the development and exploitation of hydrocarbon resources, investment, and innovative technologies in the oil and gas and process industries in CIS countries were discussed at the plenary session, and subsequent sessions of the Forum.
The topics of reports revealed broad areas of development and cooperation in the oil and gas industry. Such topics as Priorities of Turkmen energy strategy, Modern potential of oil and gas industry in the CIS, Successful long-term strategic planning and cooperation, "Export projects of CIS states in the international markets - assessment of prospects in order to ensure security of supply, Effective and efficient use of natural resources, Key future projects - to overcome the political, financial and technical risks to get results were discussed.
The information also states that the participants also came to the conclusion that the introduction of new and innovative technologies with the most modern equipment on intensification of oil and gas extraction "will contribute to the joining of Turkmenistan to the world leaders in the production of hydrocarbon resources." They also discussed the prospects for international cooperation in enhancing the export potential of the refining and petrochemical industry in the country.
Turkmenistan holds the second position among the CIS countries in natural gas reserves after Russia.
