Processing of Iran’s South Pars Gas Company’s refinery enlarges

The processing of the 6th refinery of Iran’s South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) increased by 13 percent during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through October 21, 2020), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Head of the 6th refinery of the SPGC, Ahmad Valipour said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Valipour, the 6th refinery processed about 8.1 billion cubic meters of gas within the reporting period.

The official added that the 6th refinery processes gas extracted from 15th and 16th phases of the South Pars gas field.

"Furthermore, the refinery processed 216,000 tons of LPG gas in seven months," he said.

Valipour stressed that at the same time, the 6th refinery produced 38,300 tons of sulfur over the reporting period.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $80 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The South Pars gas field has the potential to produce daily 700 million cubic meters of gas and Iran is currently extracting 630 million cubic meters of gas per day from the gas field.
