BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 22
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The 2021-2024 program of the Government of Georgia highlighted the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project as the largest transport-logistics project, Trend reports via Government administration.
The document clarifies that after completing the project, the country will be able to attract additional freight flows.
"Integration into international transport systems and regional cooperation will continue to improve the transit corridor's competitiveness. Work with partner countries is planned for the digital formation of the corridor. Creation of a digital platform which will increase efficiency and ensure the sustainability of cargo transportation through Georgia is also planned," the document reads.
According to the government program, work will continue in Georgia to develop container traffic in order to increase the share of rail freight.
It is also explained that the completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project will significantly reduce the time required for the transportation of goods between Asia and Europe.
The integration of the Baku-Nakhchivan-Turkey railway with BTK is also being considered.
In order for Georgia to remain an accountable player on the Silk Road map, experts say, a joint venture should be set up on the Kars Railway, which is stipulated in the agreement with Azerbaijan.
