The contract on the launch of the national satellite Azerspace will be signed within this month, Azerbaijani Deputy Communications and IT Minister Iltimas Mammadov said.
Mammadov said a draft document is under review of local and foreign specialists. The signing of the main contract with the manufacturer will be held in Azerbaijan and the contract for an orbital position - on the territory of a neutral state.
The preliminary work on the second contract is underway, Mammad said, adding that a certain decision will be taken soon. The ministry will sign a major contract with the manufacturer of the satellite, and the contract for an orbital position by late May.
According to Malaysian legislation, a rental contract on the orbital position of Azerbaijan's first satellite must be signed in a neutral country.
Previously, media reported that Malaysia expressed willingness to acquire a 40-percent share of Azerspace. The ministry intends to direct 80 percent of the satellite's resources to the international market and the remaining 20 percent to the domestic market.
Today Malaysia requested to postpone the signing of the contract to late April. The launch of the satellite is scheduled for June 2012.
Frequency assignments have been coordinated with Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
The ITU has placed Azerspace at a location of 43.2, 58.5 and 96 degrees east. The satellite will be equipped with three beams directed at Europe, Asia and Africa, which will allow the country to act as a transit country broadcasting channels.
