Based on the preliminary estimates, despite a drop in temperature in most parts of Azerbaijan in the New Year holidays (Dec.31 and Jan.1), snow is not expected, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry's National Hydrometeorological Department official Umayra Tagiyeva told Trend today.
"Since the second half of Dec.31, weather conditions will drastically change first in the western regions of the country," Tagiyeva said.
She said the wind will change its direction from south to north Baku and Absheron peninsula in the second half of Dec.31. Baku and Absheron peninsula may observe rains on Jan.1. The air temperature will be 9-10 degrees on Dec.31 and Jan.1.
The country may observe rainy weather on Jan.1 and sleet and snow in the foothills and mountainous areas.
Tagiyeva said that the abnormally warm weather for December will delight residents and guest of Baku until Dec.30. The daytime temperatures will reach 15 degrees in Baku and Absheron peninsula, 15-17 degrees in the areas of Aran, and 7-12 degrees in the mountains.
