BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 5. The holding of COP29 emphasizes Azerbaijan's prestige on the global stage, the chief expert on Islam at the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue at the Vatican, Monsignor Khaled Akasheh told Trend.
“This conference is of great importance, and the fact that we are holding a meeting of religious leaders in preparation for this event further strengthens its significance. Holding COP29 is a major international event that emphasizes the prestige of Azerbaijan in the world arena,” he said.
To note, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Committee for Work with Religious Entities, the Muslim Council of Elders, the Caucasus Muslims Department (CMD) and the UN Environment Program are holding a Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku.
About 30 religious leaders, heads of influential religious centers - patriarchs, Vatican and Al-Azhar officials, world-known religious and public figures representing different continents, confessions, state, scientific and religious figures representing a total of 55 countries and 30 international organizations, as well as media representatives are expected to participate in the global forum.
