Uzbekistan is celebrating Flag Day today to honor the country's foremost symbol of sovereignty - the flag - as well as the national emblem and anthem.
The Uzbek flag was approved at the Uzbek Supreme Council's Seventh Extraordinary Session Nov. 18, 199.
The flag represents the country's culture and geography. The blue color symbolizes the sky and water as principle sources of life. The flag features a half moon and one white star for every month of the year.
Uzbekistan's flag represents the country in the international arena. During the visits of official delegations overseas, the flag waves before international organization, prestigious forums, exhibitions and sporting events.
Uzbekistan became a member of the U.N. 2 March 1992.
Uzbek law ensures respect for the flag among the country's citizens.
