Bloggers are not journalists and they should not be treated as if they were, a top Azerbaijani official said today.
"There are many people across the world with computers, just like bloggers," Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov told journalists. "Defending each and every blogger as a journalist is wrong from the point of view of journalist rights."
Hasanov made the statement while commenting on the recent arrest and conviction of Azerbaijani bloggers Adnan Hajizadeh and Emin Milli.
Milli and Hajizade were convicted of hooliganism. The Baku Sabayel District Court sentenced Milli to 2.5 years in prison and Hajizadeh to two years in prison on Nov. 11.
