A criminal case has been initiated in the Baku city Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the suicide of Haji Mammadov, former chief operating officer at the Main Criminal Investigation Department of Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry, Eldar Sultanov, head of the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, told Trend Dec. 4.
Mammadov was sentenced to life imprisonment as head of an organized crime group that committed numerous killings, kidnappings and other serious crimes, Sultanov added.
On Dec. 3, Mammadov hanged himself in a specialized institution of the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan’s Justice Ministry, where he was undergoing treatment.
