Regional Director of the World Bank (WB) for the South Caucasus Henry Kerali is preparing to introduce a new country manager Larisa Leshchenko, who arrived in Baku today, to Azerbaijani government.

The WB Regional Director's visit began today, but the official meetings are scheduled for October 9-10, Baku office of the bank told Trend.

"While the new country manager officially began to carry out her duties since September 1, Leshchenko will begin to carry out her duties since November 1 in connection with the participation in various conferences, including a meeting on Azerbaijan in Tokyo last week, and other upcoming official business trips (including to Georgia)," the bank said.

The visit will continue until October 19.

Earlier, the World Bank planned to officially introduce new country manager Larisa Leshchenko on September 10 - 11. Regional director for the South Caucasus Henry Kerali was to introduce her, but the date was postponed due to his being busy.

It is connected with the regional director's preparation for the upcoming annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, to be held in Tokyo (Japan) on October 12-14.

Larisa Leshchenko was appointed World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan in August.

The term of office of the former WB head in Azerbaijan Joseph Owen ended in late July.
The country manager is usually appointed for three years, but these dates may be extended for a fourth year. Joseph Owen has been the representative of the World Bank in Azerbaijan since summer of 2010. His predecessor, Gregory Jedzejczak held this position for four years.
