IMF predicts significant economic growth and recovery in Georgia

Based on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projection, Georgia will achieve significant economic growth and recovery, said the Georgian Minister of Economy Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

She made the remark during a joint meeting of five parliamentary committees.

“Despite the pandemic-related difficulties, we did not delay structural reforms, especially those related to the European Union Association Agreement,” Turnava stressed.

The minister of economy added that the ongoing reforms aim at increasing productivity and savings.

The reforms also ensure economic sustainability, developing human capital, and strengthening ties.

Georgian startups attracted more than 25 million lari in 2020 amid pandemic, said the Turnava.

According to her, special attention is paid to the digitalization of the economy in the post-pandemic period, including the introduction of new technologies and the development of startups.

Turnava noted, that the Georgian government has introduced a special tax regime for companies with international company status in the IT industry. According to her, as a result, two international companies "EPAM" and "Exadel" have entered the Georgian market and plan to employ up to 2,000 local staff.
