Georgian Black Sea Poti Port’s Operation Restored Partially

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 August / Trend corr. E.Ismayilov / The operation of the Georgian Black Sea Poti port was restored partially at 08:00a.m local time on 12 August, Zviad Chkhartishvili, Head of the Marketing and Investment Department, told Trend via a telephone.

Port's operation was suspended due to bombing of the area by Russian aircrafts as the result of the armed conflict with South Ossetia.

"Port's operation was restored at early morning on 12 August," Chkhartishvili said.

Port will operate 12 hours per day (eight hours in mornings and eight hours at nights). Before bombing of the area, the port operated for 24 hours.

Poti port, located on the Black Sea coast of Georgia, conveys different cargo including light oil products, transported via the Azerbaijani territory from the east coast of the Caspian Sea. Port's total project capacity is 9mln tons.

Port's operation was suspended at about 7"00p.m on 10 August. The energy providing system was damaged as a result of bombing. At present, all operating systems have been restored. The oil terminal and railway communication have not been damaged by bombing.
