BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 14. The completion of well acidizing operations in phases 22, 23 and 24 of the South Pars gas field (also known as North Dome in Qatar), a shared gas field between Iran and Qatar, will boost the gas production potential by 400 million cubic feet (about 11.3 million cubic meters) per day, CEO of Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Mohammad Hossein Motajalli said, Trend reports.

Motajalli stated that 11 wells in the phases 22, 23 and 24 of the South Pars gas field are scheduled for acidizing operation. The acidizing operation of 5 wells has been done and the remaining wells are being worked on.

He also said that 5 more wells will be drilled in these phases, starting from the next Iranian year (March 20, 2024).

The plan for the development of the phases 22, 23 and 24 of the South Pars gas field is underway. When the works are done, these phases will produce 56 million cubic meters of rich gas and 75,000 barrels of gas condensate per day.

Iran shares the ownership of the South Pars gas field with Qatar. Iran's share of the field stands at about 33 percent. The country has been developing the field since 2002, investing a total of about $90 billion in its development. Iran's share of the field is divided into 24 phases, each of which is developed separately. Iran is developing its share of the field through its domestic workforce, while Qatar's part is mostly handled by foreign companies.

The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
