Payment card turnover spikes in Azerbaijan

The debit and credit card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.6 billion manat ($1.5 billion) in Mar. 2020, which is 50.3 percent more than in Mar. 2019, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani Central Bank (CBA).

According to the CBA report, total number of transactions with payment cards amounted to 18.5 million transactions (an increase of 49.6 percent) worth 2.6 billion manat for the reporting period.

Some 1.8 million transactions worth 102 million manat ($60 million) were carried out outside the country.

The number of transactions with debit cards (both domestically and abroad) exceeded 16.1 million transactions worth 2.5 million manat ($1.4 million), of which 7.7 million transactions worth 1.9 million manat ($1.1 million) were carried out using ATMs in Azerbaijan, and over 2.5 million operations worth 240,000 manat ($141,100) via POS terminals.

In Mar. 2020, bank customers carried out 2.4 million transactions worth 161 million manat ($94.7 million) via credit cards (both domestically and abroad).

Meanwhile, 247,000 operations worth 45 million manat ($26.4 million) were carried out using ATMs within the country, and over 1 million operations worth 63 million manat ($37 million) were carried out using POS terminals in the country.
