BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 22

By Sadraddin Aghjayev – Trend:

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revised the 2021 forecasts of losses of the world's airlines up by almost 18.5 percent, Trend reports referring to IATA on Apr.22.

According to the association, by the end of this year, the losses of the world's airlines will amount to $47.7 billion, which is 18.47 percent more than the latest IATA forecast (in November 2020, this figure was $38.7 billion).

This year, according to IATA forecasts, the passenger traffic of airlines can reach 2.4 billion people, which is 30 percent more than last year, but 47 percent less than in 2019.

Besides, the revenues of the air transport industry could reach $458 billion, which is 23 percent more than in 2020, but 45 percent less than in 2019.

The association predicted financial weakening of the airline industry from the COVID-19 crisis, and so resuming and continuing air travel could play a key role in its recovery.

"We also call on the governments of the world to provide support to airlines," concluded IATA.
