Georgian Patriarch meets with French Interior Minister in Paris

Georgian Patriarch Ilia II met with French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie during his visit to France. The meeting focused on France's active participation in Georgia's de-occupation by Russia.

The patriarchy reported France is a partner of Georgia and the meeting with Michele Alliot-Marie focused on the August developments during the Georgian-Russian war in 2008. "The minister noted that France will continue to make efforts for peace settlement of the conflict in Georgia in future, as well," the patriarchy reported.

The Georgian Patriarch's visit coincides with the day of commemoration of the St. Tamar. The Georgian St. Tamar Church will be consecrated in Paris on May 14. His Holiness presided over a prayer for the souls rest in the Georgians cemetery Levilya and met with Georgian emigrants.
