Regional security and stability were discussed in Brussels at a meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule.

The sides discussed cooperation with the EU and the role of the European Neighborhood Policy in ensuring stability in the region, Vashadze told reporters after the meeting.

"In addition, we mulled Georgia's rapprochement with the EU and the work undertaken in 2010. The rapprochement between Georgia and the EU was said to have been successful," he said.

The meeting also addressed Georgia's progress in its rapprochement with the EU, Vashadze said.

In mid-July, the first round of talks on an EU Association Agreement took place with the three South Caucasus countries of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. The agreement is based on a joint commitment to develop common values and covers a wide range of areas including political dialogue, justice, freedom and security, as well as issues of trade and cooperation
