PACE co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan meet with opposition leader

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's (PACE) co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan, Maltese MP Joseph Debono Grech and Spanish MP Pedro Agramunt, met with Azerbaijani Citizens and Development Party Chairman Ali Aliyev on Wednesday.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's (PACE) co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan, Maltese MP Joseph Debono Grech and Spanish MP Pedro Agramunt, met with Azerbaijani Citizens and Development Party Chairman Ali Aliyev on Wednesday.  The meeting mainly discussed the parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on Nov. 7, 2010, the state of democracy and socio-economic issues.

Aliyev said a striking contrast between the assessments of the parliamentary elections by the Council of Europe and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of causes confusion and many questions. Aliyev expressed his dissatisfaction with PACE President Movlud Cavusoglu's latest statement regarding the parliamentary elections on Nov. 7.

Aliyev assessed the failure to fulfill hereditary principle in the appointment of rapporteurs as wrong and noted with regret that the lack of this leads to the fact that the co-rapporteurs start its work from scratch.

The co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan said that they will take into consideration the criticism and share their opinions on this matter on the basis of the received information at a press conference to be held in the near future.
