Baku is fully ready to host the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, Secretary General of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Nassar said at a press conference in Baku today.
The press conference on Baku's nomination to host the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017 was conducted by the Azerbaijani National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and ISFS.
He added the Evaluation Commission for the games believes that Baku has all the right conditions for holding the competitions.
"I hope that Baku will be approved as the city where the Games will be held," he said.
Regarding the issue of wearing the hijab by participants, Al-Nassar stressed that the Muslim religion of all athletes is not a condition of participation in the Games. Non-Muslims may be involved in the Games. As for the head covering, the Olympic rules are observed.
Hijab is permitted in some kinds of sports. The athletes may make their own decision. However, there are kinds of sports in which a head covering is not permitted by international federations, he said.
