Prosecutor Appeals Time for Preparations at Court Trial on Azerbaijani Health Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The court trial including the appeal against the former Azerbaijani Health Minister, Ali Insanov, has concluded. The court trial was held under the chairmanship of Judge Gayil Mammadov. Fahraddin Abbasov's attorney, Akif Alizadeh, gave speech at the trial.

The attorney said that the defendant who was sentenced to 7 years and 5 months in prison for misappropriation of state property, for illegally privatizing 3 properties. Fahraddin Abbasov, who was the former executive director of the Vital Medical, rented these facilities by order of the founder and later signed all the necessary privatization documents.

Akif Alizadeh asked the representative of the respondent, Vakil Abbasov, to reconsider the sentence for illegal privatization of the property in the Samad Vurgun 8 street, as well as to change the Prosecutor General's appeal.

The court trial will continue on 13 September.

Insanov was detained in October, 2005. He was accused of attempting a coup d'etat and causing mass riots. By the decision made by the Azerbaijani Court on Heinous Crimes dated 20 April, Ali Insanov was found guilty in appropriation of property and abuse of power and sentenced to 11years imprisonment.

Presently he is held in the Bail Isolation Cell 1 of the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan. He demands to be transferred to the Patient Care Institution of the Penitentiary Service. Medical examinations on him have proved that he suffers from a vertebral hernia.

Former representatives of the Azerbaijani Health Ministry, Fakhraddin Abbasov, Anar Namazov and Parviz Karimov were each sentenced to 7 years imprisonment, Fuad Mahmudov was given 7 years and six months, Vakil Abbasov was given 5 years, Akif Maharramov was given 9 years and had his property confiscated, Eldar Rzayev was given 7 years, Haji Aliyev was given 7 years, Shovgu Jafarov was given 7 years and Alexander Umrashkin was given 3 years.
