Since January 2018, JSC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) within the Business Transformation Program has launched a practical transition to a new model of industrial safety management, the company said in a statement.

Director of the industrial safety and ecology department Akbulat Zhagiparov said that the new model establishes common approaches and principles of management to all components of safety: traffic safety, labor, fire, industrial and environmental safety.

"The new model will enhance the culture of safety, transparency of reporting, the level of automation of security processes, the share of preventive measures in the organization of business processes, which ultimately will improve the level of safety in the company and reduce the impact on the environment," he said.

"One of the conditions for the introduction of the new model is the preparation of an appropriate regulatory framework, including documents of the upper and the base level.

Within the framework of this activity, new standards have been approved, which cover the identification of risks and environmental aspects, their assessment, and management of risks in the field of industrial safety; security management in the performance of work by contractors; prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, etc.

The standards have been developed taking into account the requirements of a new management model that takes into account the best world practice and the provisions of the Samruk-Kazyna Reference Model prepared for portfolio companies.
