Azerbaijan reveals agricultural production volumes in 2017

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 6.58 billion manats in Azerbaijan in 2017, which is by 4.2 percent more than in 2016, the State Statistics Committee said in a report.

The crop production increased by 2.7 percent, while livestock production – 6.1 percent in the reporting period.

In 2017, 2.69 million tons of grain were harvested from a 941,500-hectare-area, which is 5.2 percent less than in 2016.

An average of 28.6 centners of grain was harvested from each hectare. Thus, 235,600 tons of corn were harvested from a 35,700-hectare-area.

According to the report, 913,900 tons of potatoes were harvested (a 1.3 percent increase), 1.41 million tons of vegetables (a 10.6 percent increase), 438,100 tons of melons and gourds (a 5.7 percent decrease) during the reporting period.

As of Jan. 1, 2018, 30,600 tons of sunflower, 422,200 tons of sugar beet, 5,210 tons of tobacco and 207,500 tons of cotton were harvested in Azerbaijan.

In 2017, 954,800 tons of fruits and berries were produced in the country, which is 8.2 percent more than in 2016.

In addition, 45,500 tons of hazelnuts (32.9 percent growth), 156,800 tons of pomegranate (an 8 percent increase), 147,200 tons of persimmon (a 3 percent increase), 42,800 tons of citrus fruits (a 8.4 percent decrease), 152,800 tons of grapes (a 12 percent increase) and 775.2 tons of tea (a 23.7 percent decrease) were produced during the reporting period.

Some 540,500 tons of meat in live weight, 2.02 million tons of milk, 1.71 billion eggs, 16,000 tons of wool and 245.2 tons of silkworm cocoons were produced last year in the country. Compared to 2016, production of meat grew 3.2 percent, milk - by 0.7 percent, eggs - by 6.5 percent, silkworm cocoons - by 3.5 times, and wool production decreased by 3.7 percent.
