South Korea and Iran can boost their economic cooperation by using the potential of Gilan province, which plays an important role in Iran’s economy, said South Korean envoy.

South Korean ambassador to Iran Ryu Jeong-hyun said during a meeting with governor of Gilan Mostafa Salari that his country and Iran continue their cooperation within the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan, IRNA reported.

He recalled that the two countries continued collaboration despite some economic restrictions during the Iran-Iraq war.

Currently, there is a new period in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, said the envoy.

He pointed out that it is necessary to put efforts for boosting ties between Gilan and South Korea.

Earlier, Saeid Badamchi Shabestari, Iran’s new ambassador to Seoul said that there is a “comprehensive plan” aimed at expansion of bilateral ties with South Korea in the face of returning US actions.

The plan would address the expansion of relations in political, economic, commercial, cultural, and parliamentary areas, Shabestari said.

“The plan will be implemented in line with a timed schedule and would take priorities into consideration,” he added.

The Iranian and South Korean economies complement one another, he said, reminding that the volume of bilateral trade surpassed the $12-billion benchmark last year. “I consider the mutual interactions and cooperation to be following a very optimistic trend,” the envoy noted.
