Iran, Iraq and Syria officials will hold a meeting in Tehran to discuss more details regarding implementation of the international gas export project (Islamic gas pipeline) shortly, Mehr reported quoting the Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad Oji as saying.
Earlier, Oji said that a new route, which is to run via Iraq and Syria, has been approved to transfer Iran's gas to Europe.
Oji said that in pursuit of previous bilateral talks Iran and Syria reached an agreement upon a new route to transfer Iran's gas to Europe.
'Under the new deal between the two countries, a gas pipeline will transfer Iran's gas to Iraq and Syrian territories feeding their power plants and next through Southern Lebanon will extend to Mediterranean Sea and Europe,' NIGC managing director said.
Oji also noted that under a trilateral deal among Iran, Iraq and Syria an international consultant would be chosen to design the gas pipeline route and assess its construction economically.
According to Oji, the length of the 56 inches gas pipeline is estimated to be two thousand kilometers, 700 to 1000 kilometers of which, depending on the route, would be laid in Iran.
Evaluating the gas transfer capacity 110 million cubic meters per day, Oji said the length of the pipeline in Iraq territory would be about 500 kilometers and in Syria 500 to 700 kilometers.
Oji said that by construction of the pipeline it is estimated a daily 10 to 15 million cubic meters of Iraq gas needs, 15 to 20 million cubic meters of Syrian and 5 to 7 million cubic meters of Southern Lebanon gas needs to be met.
On the price formula, NIGC official noted that the price would be determined by the consortium that is slated to construct the pipeline.
Estimating the cost of pipeline $2 to $2.5 billion, Oji added that the funds would be provided through finance.
Iran and Syria signed new documents on oil and gas during the Iranian minister of petroleum and some other oil and gas officials' visit to Syrian.
NIGC managing director, Javad Oji and deputy Iranian minister of petroleum for foreign and commercial affairs, Ahamad Khaleghi and Abdu Hesamaddin Syrian deputy minister of oil and mineral resources and Ali Abbas the managing director of Syrian Oil Company signed the documents in the presence of the Iranian minister of petroleum, Masoud Mirkazemi and his Syrian counterpart Safian Alao.
