The West of Karoun oil region which holds six big oil fields will become one of the biggest energy centers of the country, Shana reported quoting the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Ahmad Qalebani as saying.
Qalebani said that under the NIOC planning, oil production from the West of Karoun Region will increase to 1.5 million barrels of oil per day. "Increasing oil production from the region will compensate natural declining oil extraction from Iran's old reservoirs."
"NIOC tries to build necessary infrastructures such as roads, hospitals and power plants concurrent with development of oil fields in the region," Qalebani said.
The company had held talks with MAPNA on construction of a power plant in the region and to this end operation would start as soon as possible, Qalebani added
According to Qalebani, development of shared oil fields in the West of Karoun is one of the NIOC top priorities.
He said that one of our plans in the West of Karoun oil region is to create job s. So ,foreign and domestic contractors are required to recruit 80 percent of their workforce from among the local people.
Earlier Iran's minister of petroleum reported about development of all shared oil and gas fields by the end of the Fifth Five Year Development Plan in 2016.
Earlier Iran's minister of petroleum Seyed Masoud Mirkazemi said that the oil industry needs at least $210 billion to implement upstream and downstream projects during the Fifth Five Year Development Plan.
Mirkazemi said that the projects in West of Karoun, where Darkhovain and some other southern oil fields are located, will absorb part of the investments.
With regard to development of the third phase of Darkhovain oil field, Mirkazemi said that several oil companies had expressed their readiness and talks were underway.
A thorough planning has been carried out for development of shared oil and gas fields in order to make them operational as soon as possible, he underscored.
